FOOLS
CROW....LYRICS

People look very good I am coming back
from above
Tell the others that you will
live
People look at me very good
My hands are holy
Somebody tells me and now it is true
Eyes that see right through me, a heart
that feels the pain
A smile that is gonna heal with a love that
never ends
His
body's in his Mother Earth, his spirit's in the
sky
Will you come to see me one day, will you teach
me to fly?
Fools Crow, Fools Crow
I wish that I could feel you, I'd love to kiss
your hands
Just to sit and listen to a wise and holy
man
I bet you'd tell me something to help me
understand
The power of the wisdom before I'm buried in
this land
Fools Crow, Fools Crow
A hollow tube is all that I am, a place to put
your holy stem
I'll live my life with the sacred pipe, I'll do
my part
Until the time is right
Fasting up on Bear Butte, praying on the
hill
Makes a person wonder why man still has to
kill
Everything that tries to live, everything that
moves too slow
You took the time to look inside
To let your ego go
Fools Crow, Fools Crow
From
Georgie
In 1983 I traveled to Pine Ridge, South Dakota for
one purpose; I wanted to talk
with a Traditional Holy Person about the Winkte Tradition and
how it related to
my life. As it turned out Helen Redfeather took me to Grandpa
Fools Crow. As
far as I knew, he was her Great Grandfather, or some sort of relative
and he
knew the old traditions. Helen told me he would know if anyone
knew.
It wasn't until 1988 that I was made aware of the magnitude of
the Old Man
who agreed to pray pipe for me. I was working in H.S. library
and ran across
a book called "Fools Crow" by Thomas E. Mails. This is when I
found out he
was the Ceremonial Chief of the Oglala Lakota people. People from
all walks of life
had been seeking this great man's help and council for most of
his life.
I was in awe of this man even without knowing of his fame. He
was well
inot his 90's when I met him. But he transcended age and you could
tell he
could read you like a book. All I knew was that after that meeting
my life
and this Winkte tradition became clear and focused and I owed
it to this Holy Man.
Through Grandpa Fools Crow I learned that when Creator gives you
a burden
there is also a gift. The greater the burden the greater the gift.
My journey
is now to focus on the gift and not the burden.
