AMERICAN
HOLOCAUST
The Premiere Album From Georgie
Jessup
The album
"American Holocaust" is dedicated to one of
Jessup's most passionately held causes--the
plight of the American Indian. Using
the term 'Holocaust' in the album title
generated some serious backlash to the
singer's business aspirations, but it is a
term used thoughtfully, respectfully, and
accurately. The album highlights the
plight of many Native Americans Georgie saw
during her lengthy stay on a Lakota
Reservation, where she sought spiritual
guidance from Chief Frank Fools Crow.
The album begins with a recitation in the
Lakota's language of the true meaning of
love and abruptly moves into the call to
arms, "Hoka Hey." The album reflects
the Indians' appreciation for nature's
bounty and their subjugation as European
invaders snuffed out their way of
life. The concluding song, "American
Holocaust" is a melancholy declaration of
the wrong-headedness, which deprives us,
even to this day, of a way of life that
respects nature, the wisdom of elders, and
the Great Spirit.
